To make racing as safe as possible, we need multiple people in different roles for safety. They are the men and woman who are the first to respond in case of an crash.
Trackmarshals: The trackmarshals, or Recovery Marshals are the ones wo go on track after Race Control gives them permission to do so. What they do is cleaning the track and recovering the crashed vehicles.
Flagmarshals: Flagmarshals are operating with at least 2 marshal on a flagpost. One is looking to the previous flagpost and the otherone is wacthing the next flagpost. In that way, they always know what is happening around them, so they can respond quickely using the right flags for that situation. If you want to know which flags we use, read my other post about the flag and their meaning: Click here.
Radio Marshals: We also need communication with Race Control. That’s were the Radio Marshal is used for. He or Her talks to Race Control and reports incidents and other important things.
Medical Staff: Ofcourse we need our medical staff. They are the ones who go to the rider first and check up on their wellbeing. If they need extra medical assistance, like a medical car or ambulance, they report that to the radio marshal.
Other jobs: Beside all the jobs I mentioned above, we also have intervention vehicles placed around the track. Not every post has one of these standing by, but they can help everywhere. Intervention vehicles are Rescue Teams, Towtrucks, Telehandlers, ZOAB Cleaners, Firetrucks, Fast Fire Cars and Sweeping machines.
